I wonder if anyone else has experienced this issue (?) - when loading the mag tube, the feed ramp does NOT snap back into place, its sort of sticks half way and has to be manually teased back! The result of this is is that upon racking the gun I might be lucky to get one in the chamber but more than likely, the shell falls out of the feed port and on to the floor because the feed ramp remains open enough to allow the shell to escape!
Highly frustrating; indeed my local emporium can't figure it out so, as the gun was new from them in October last year and hasn't had much more than a couple of hundred down the tube, its now on its way back to Remington.
Anyone had anything like this happen?
Thanks
David

Well maybe it was just mine then - LOL!

Anyway, off it went to Remington (or rather Remington's designated service agent in IL) and back it came in 10 days which I gather is really a very fast turnaround.

They adjusted the shell guide thingy, tested it, adjusted the gas ports (does this mean it will cycle normal shells now I wonder), retested it and sent it back!

The only downer was that I had forgotten to remove the six shell Sidesaddle and it was damaged on the way back so I bought the much stronger Mesa Tactical 8 shot one, fitted that and the 10 round extension tube and now have 10 + 1 plus 8 on the side!

Now to test it with high brass and "normal"

Glad you got it fixed; I would imagine that a 10 round magazine makes it VERY muzzle heavy

The faster I pull the trigger, the lighter it will get

Probably no more heavier than the new Mossberg JM series 10 shot; there again, with 3-Gun the object is to not hold 10 in the mag for very long anyway is it?

Now I am thinking of buying a 26" barrel for it as the mag tube protrudes quite a way past the current barrel - I know that this will not affect it in any way but for purely aesthetic purposes...........

The "normal" shells failed to cycle (which is what I supposed I expected) but the high brass stuff worked like a champ. I did notice that the muzzle blast marked the extension magazine tube which was hardly surprising as the barrel is some 6" shorter. So I ordered a replacement 26" barrel which should be delivered today.

I spent a lot of time researching the old failure to cycle issue with regular shells and found that in the tactical barrel, there is only one gas port and that in the game/skeet/trap barrels there is two. Thus the game/skeet/trap barrels for the 1100 will cycle regular shells and the Magnum/Tactical barrels will not! I would have thought (as a layman) that one port would provide a much more concentrated gust and that two ports would dilute the effect somewhat - still, once I get the new barrel (which is out for delivery on a FedEx truck as I write), I shall inspect the gas ports and possible open them up a smidge and then take it to the range and test it. I really would like to be able to use normal shells.

The magnum barrels are designed for heavy loads only. If you shoot heavy loads from the target barrel, you will beat the back of your receiver to death - it will literally crack and fall apart after a while from that pounding

Maybe I wasn't clear - the original barrel/receiver was not a "Magnum" - 2 3/4 shells only.

I spent a lot of time researching the issue - it seems that the 1100 is not a "do it all" gun - you buy what you want not; what you think it will do.

Remington told me that the Tac 1100's are designed for heavy load, high fps shells as a) they are for Police/LEO work where one or two shots to breach a door etc is all that is required, and 2) the 18" barrel is way too short to allow for sufficient back pressure to build to cycle the action with lighter loads.

I wish I had known this before-hand but never mind!

So, now I have a 26" barrel on it (not a "target" barrel just a plain vanilla barrel that you find on middle of the road 1100's)- Remington again said that the longer barrel will allow for sufficient pressure to build and allow the action to cycle.

And I have just put 50 rounds of Winchester AA down range without a hiccup. So the plan now is to use AA shells and then reload them slightly hotter to allow for any tolerances that hand-loading might give.

$12.49 a box for the hi-brass Remingtons versus $9.49 for a box of AA's - the math works for me.

I must say I nearly had a weak moment and bought the Mossberg 930 Jerry Miculak but I will see how the 1100 fares this Saturday in the 3gun I am shooting and then decide - I really don't need to be spending another $600 right now!

I am a little disappointed with the 1100 though, not mine specifically but 1100's in general - I really thought that they would eat anything and perform well. All I wanted was a reliable semi-automatic that would eat cheaper shells and feed reliably - I thought the 1100 would do that and maybe it would if I had bought a different model!
